RCI implements a protection-centered, integrated approach to achieve its objectives, combining community engagement, awareness-raising, capacity building, and advocacy. By working closely with local communities, government authorities, international partners, and other stakeholders, RCI enhances safety, reduces risks, and promotes inclusive and sustainable practices across its program sectors. The organization emphasizes multi-sectoral interventions, ensuring that emergency response, humanitarian mine action, disability inclusion, mental health and psychosocial support, and WASH activities are coordinated to maximize community resilience and long-term impact.
As a local non-governmental organization, RCI works closely with communities to address urgent protection and development needs. RCI’s primary operations are in Rakhine State, where landmines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) continue to threaten the safety and well-being of residents. Recognizing the wider impact of these hazards, RCI has extended its efforts to Chin State, applying integrated, multi-sectoral approaches to deliver sustainable solutions and enhance resilience for affected populations. Through active collaboration with local authorities, community members, and partner organizations, RCI ensures programs are inclusive, context-sensitive, and responsive to the unique needs of each community.
RCI is strongly committed to gender equality, diversity, and inclusive programming, recognizing that these principles lead to more equitable, effective, and sustainable outcomes for all community members. Gender is understood as the social differences between males and females across their lifecycles, which are shaped by cultural traditions but remain dynamic and subject to change. These differences influence societal roles, opportunities, and challenges within communities.
RCI adopts a diversity-sensitive approach, acknowledging, respecting, and addressing the unique needs of vulnerable groups based on age, socio-economic status, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and gender identity, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex individuals.
Throughout all program cycles, RCI prioritizes the inclusion of those most at risk, particularly women-headed households, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups. By ensuring their meaningful participation in project activities and providing targeted support, RCI enhances resilience, protection, and livelihood opportunities for the most vulnerable members of the community.
RCI recognizes that strong collaboration and strategic partnerships are critical to achieving sustainable and lasting impact. The organization maintains excellent relationships with international NGOs, local partners, and government authorities, ensuring coordinated and effective interventions. RCI actively engages with humanitarian agencies, environmental organizations, academic institutions, and community stakeholders to leverage expertise, resources, and collective action, enhancing the reach, quality, and sustainability of its programs. By fostering trust and cooperation at all levels, RCI ensures that its interventions are inclusive, protection-focused, and responsive to the needs of the communities it serves.
RCI is committed to integrating gender considerations across all operations, ensuring equitable, inclusive, and sustainable outcomes for all community members. Gender is understood not solely as a concern for women and girls, but as the social differences between females and males across their lifecycles. These differences, shaped by cultural norms, evolve over time and vary within and between societies, influencing roles, opportunities, and vulnerabilities.
RCI mainstreams gender throughout the entire project cycle, from design to implementation and monitoring. Gender-specific vulnerabilities are assessed to ensure programs address the unique needs of all individuals. Special attention is given to pregnant and lactating women, including nutritional support, as well as women-headed households facing socioeconomic challenges. RCI also monitors women’s dietary diversity, health, and overall well-being, ensuring that interventions are responsive, inclusive, and contribute to empowerment and resilience.
